Information We Handle

Back to Safety may handle profile details, emergency contact details, destinations, incidents, and app settings that you enter. This information is stored locally on your device.

Analytics

To improve app quality and reliability, Back to Safety collects anonymous usage analytics automatically:

Anonymous usage analytics

• A randomly generated device identifier (UUID) is created on first launch and stored locally. It is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information.
• Anonymous events are recorded when you navigate through onboarding, start or complete an emergency search, and change app settings.
• Session recordings may be captured with all text inputs and images masked — we see interaction patterns only, not the content you type or your photos.
• Analytics data is processed by PostHog, a third-party analytics provider. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and subject to PostHog's privacy practices.

You cannot opt out of analytics. All analytics data is anonymous and does not contain personally identifiable information.

Device Permissions

• Contacts: import emergency contacts
• Camera: capture profile photos
• Photos/Media library: choose profile photos
• SMS: open a prefilled emergency text flow

Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. If you send texts or place calls, those actions are handled by your carrier and platform providers. Anonymous analytics data is sent to PostHog, our analytics provider, for the purpose of understanding app usage and improving reliability. PostHog processes this data on our behalf as a service provider.

Data Retention and Deletion

• Personal profile data remains on your device until you remove it.
• You can delete data in-app (where available) or by uninstalling the app.
• Anonymous analytics events are retained for up to 12 months.

Security

We use platform-provided local storage mechanisms. Anonymous telemetry is transmitted over HTTPS. Protect your device with passcode or biometric lock when possible.
